Innovation & R&D

Innovation in the vegetable oil sector is not measured by catalogue breadth. It is measured by an operator's ability to continuously improve yields, develop new grades on demand and turn extraction coproducts into industrial value streams.

That is the direction Folk Oils has chosen.

Innovation in service of structural price competitiveness.

Process optimization, grades to specification and full press-cake valorization.

01

Continuous process optimization

Our process optimization programme targets three simultaneous levers—extraction yield, preservation of bioactive compounds and reduction of production losses.

Each species in our portfolio has a dedicated preparation protocol—grind calibration, residual moisture control, thermal conditioning before pressing—continuously refined from production analytical data. A one-point yield gain on a high-value species flows directly into our cost structure and the price we offer clients.

02

Grade development to client specification

Folk Oils develops vegetable oil grades to client brief—cosmetic grade with guaranteed tocopherol profile, food grade with acidity controlled below a specific threshold, deodorized fraction with defined odour threshold, multi-species blend with targeted fatty acid profile.

If your formulation requires a specification not yet covered by our standard catalogue, we review it, test it and submit it for analytical validation before any commercial proposal.

Standard lead time for new grade development: 15 to 30 working days depending on complexity.

03

Coproduct valorization—proteins & bioactives

Press cakes from our extraction process are our main current R&D development axis.

Plant proteins

Our work focuses on high-functionality protein isolates and concentrates—solubility, emulsifying capacity, amino acid profile—for food and nutraceutical industries. This valorization creates a second revenue stream on the same raw material and structurally strengthens our price competitiveness on oils.

Specialty bioactives

Some press cakes contain high-value functional fractions—plant sterols, squalene, isorhamnetin, phenolic compounds—whose extraction and purification represent strong potential for active cosmetics and precision nutraceutical markets.

04

New grades & new species

Our development pipeline continuously integrates new plant species with industrial potential—selected on functional value, direct-chain raw material availability and emerging demand from our target markets.

Each new species is analytically qualified before catalogue integration—fatty acid profile, unsaponifiable fraction, oxidative stability, compatibility with our existing extraction lines.

05

Development partnerships

Folk Oils is open to development collaborations with industrial partners—co-development of specific grades, formulation trials on new species, pilot coproduct valorization programmes.

These partnerships are handled under confidentiality and follow a formal development protocol with defined analytical milestones.
